With only a couple of days left prior to our departure, we had the annual Farewell Dinner at our school. It was exclusive to students and faculty members to make it more intimate.
I walked into our school for the last time and saw these photos above. First from our spring Sicily trip. Then the one from our fall Milan trip. And finally the very fist photo we took as a class - when we first met our host families.
Throughout dinner, we had some special awards, such as "the saltiest one on campus" or "the one who never missed a single day of class." As lighthearted as we tried to keep this event, we could not help but get a bit emotional. We were essentially saying goodbye to a wonderful year that we have shared as Class of 2016 of SYA Italy.
We went around saying anything that we would like to say. First some faculty members then students. I shared my own thoughts too about how I will never forget everybody present in the room and how grateful I am to be part of this experience. Sure there were rough moments here and there, but that is also an essential part of what made SYA Italy the best year of my life.
I feel like all of my recent posts say the same thing: SYA Italy is amazing and I don't want it to end. But it's always on the back of my mind. And I think by repeating this theme over and over again on this blog, I am helping myself get used to the idea of leaving Italy.
But for now, I will try to enjoy my last few days here in Viterbo.
