My host family took me to Lake Bolsena this morning (and of course, I woke up late --- something is wrong with my alarm). Andrea (my 7-year-old host brother) apparently knows how to sail, so while waiting, I swam in the lake. What a lovely day - the water's temperature was right on point.
On the way back was full of musical discoveries. First of all, the Italians love English songs! Maybe they don't, but they are on radio nonstop. I heard Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Hozier, and Sam Smith all within 30 minutes. Second of all, I discovered an Italian pop trio called "Il Volo." They must be famous in Italia because I saw them singing the Italian national anthem on television today.
By the way, did I mention that Maurizio (my host dad) is an amazing cook? Not only does he grow most of the ingredients he use in his garden, but he also cooks the best meals in less than half an hour. And tonight, he did not let me down. First for appetizers, we ate bruschetta with truffle sauce on top. But that was not the highlight. Our main dish was slices of yellow melon with prosciutto, thin Italian ham, on top (I attached an image on the bottom). I devoured the whole thing in less than a minute. Bless Maurizio's culinary skills.
