Today, we went on a school trip to Perugia, which is the capital of the region Umbria and is two hours away from Viterbo. The goal of this day trip was to prepare ourselves for a three-day independent travel known as the Capstone Project, which will happen in April.
Chosen by the AP Latin students (including myself!), 8 different Capstone groups split off in the morning. Although I wanted to wander around the city more, the windy weather was too much for me. And of course, our assignment was to interview a bunch of local Perugians, who were not that willing to help us six American students who speak broken Italian. So once we completed our tasks outside (which involved going into this beautiful church shown below), we immediately went underground and explored what appeared to be ruins of the old Perugia. It seems to me that the current Perugia is built on top of a layer of ancient city (which is very common here in Italy). We took a nice photo in one of the rooms.
But of course, the main reason the school decided to take us to Perugia: CHOCOLATE! We went on a tour inside the chocolate factory of the famous Nestlé company, Perugina. If you do not know, Perugina makes one of the best and most well-known chocolate brands known as Baci.
We were in a room full of chocolate (called the "tasting room") and they let us indulge in as much chocolate as we possibly could. Let me just say - the scene reminded me of Black Friday. The resemblance was uncanny! I brought home some chocolate and I think my host family appreciated it very much. I am glad that we are getting along more and more.
Happy thanksgiving, everyone!
