Sicilia Part 1: Cuma & Napoli

March has been a crazy month. First, I visited NYU Abu Dhabi. Then, I went to Luxembourg to participate at GIN. Afterwards, I went to Pisa, Cinque Terre, and Venezia for spring break. That's enough of traveling, right?

You were wrong - after a day of rest, I am off to Sicily for 10 days (but this time, I am with the school)!!

Our first destination was Cuma, which is an archaeological site on the outskirts of Napoli (Naples). This is where the famous hero Aeneas from Virgil's The Aeneid supposedly went down to the underworld. There, the AP Latin students (including me) had to retell the story of our Latin protagonist.

Afterwards, we headed for Napoli (Naples). On the bus ride, however, I had to perform the famous Dido lines from The Aeneid because a week ago, I won the singing contest and was crowned as Queen Dido by our Latin teacher!

Before we even reached the center of Napoli, the views that we saw from the bus already got us excited for the city. Nevertheless, the city itself was not quite as amazing. The city is quite notorious for its trash and graffiti everywhere, and it is quite true. People there were also a bit aloof, but I guess that applies to every tourist destination. We had to conduct some interviews in Italian for our Sicily project, which was quite hard to manage due to the lack of willingness from their part.

But there were definitely good parts of Napoli, one of which included (obviously) FOOD! Napoli is known for its pizzas and desserts (especially a pasty called sfogliatelle, which in the photo below is covered in chocolate). Also, the main piazzas were maintained very well, unlike some streets and alleys along the way.

Now, we are going to take an overnight cruise ship to go to Catania. There is no Wi-Fi on board, however, and the college results are going to be released tonight!! So I guess I have to wait an extra day...
