Sicilia Part 5: Agrigento and Porto Empodocle

What a day! Today was definitely the best day in Sicily so far.

The highlight was obviously the famous Valley of Temples, which is a UNESCO Heritage Site. We took a lot of photos and learned about various temples that still remain today, one of which was the famous Temple of Concordia. This temple is one of the epitomes of Greek civilization that in fact the UNESCO symbol is derived from this temple! Here, in front of a living artifact of an ancient culture, we reenacted a typical scene of slaying animals for the gods with mini dolls.

After a fun morning in Agrigento, we headed to Porto Empodocle. We really didn't do much there besides having a reflection moment about our year in Italy thus far and the part that is left (which is only 7 weeks). It is crazy how time flies by, from August 29th (when we first got on the plane from Boston to Rome) to now April 4th (practicing Italian and learning about the syncretism that can be found in Sicily). What a journey it has been!

Before sunset, we had a few hours of free time where most of us went to the beach. Unfortunately, the water was still too cold, but we still had a good time! (especially the part where we climbed on top of the rocks that kind of hurt your feet)
