Yesterday morning, we drove up from Agrigento to Palermo, the final destination of our Sicilian trip. When we arrived around lunchtime, there was a guide who gave us a tour of the city center. But honestly, I prefer navigating through the streets myself, so I ended up doing that with my friends during our free time.
Today, however, was much more interesting. We got to meet the Italian students whom we have been contacting for the past month for a group project. But I think we received more help than we gave them...
The itinerary of the day mostly revolved around going to the Cappella Palatina, which I would say encapsulates the essence of Palermo. The mosaics, the syncretism of Greek and Latin cultures, the recognition of Arab culture, etc. Just take a look at it yourself - it is quite breathtaking.
As you can probably tell, these photos do not justice. So if you get a chance to travel to Italy, please visit Palermo!!
After seeing the Cappella Palatina of Palermo, I have high expectations for the Duomo of Monreale (which I will visit tomorrow), which our art history teacher said is much more grandiose. So let's see!
