Luxembourg Part 2: Becoming an Activist

I started out my day by losing my personal diary... What a great start!

The morning session was quite boring to be honest. It was just the traditional introduction with a message that is trying to be inspiring. I just wanted to go to one of SYA France's presentations to show them support. Their project was on human trafficking, and I learned so much from it. I walked out feeling shocked about how this happens even in countries we consider "developed."

Hoping the afternoon session would be better, I attended a session led by a British activist called Jaz O'Hara. Wondering what she had to offer, I went with some kids from my school. And it was the best thing ever. Originally a Londoner, she decided, one day, to drive down to Calais, France, to see the reality of "the Jungle." Upon return, she uploaded the photos she took and the conversations she had with the refugees on her personal Facebook page. When she woke up the next day, she became a superstar; her post blew up.

So she quit her fashion design job and decided to become an activist, and now she is the founder of an organization called the Worldwide Tribe. This all happened within 7 months. While I was adjusting to my life in Italy, she was able to help out the ones who needed help the most. Her story and tips made me wonder if I can do that. But more importantly if I am willing to do that. Becoming an activist (of LGBTQ and gender equality especially) is something I have always dreamed of, but how far am I willing to go to achieve this goal?

In the evening, we went to the International School of Luxembourg, which is the "host school" for this year. We had dinner there (pasta... once again) and we had many ice-breaker games. On the way back, I sat with Ally (a girl from SYA France) and we jammed to various musical songs and annoyed probably the entire bus.

What a day! But we must go to bed early to prep ourselves for our presentation tomorrow. So excited!
